05.31.10: School Districts to Decide Race to Top Fate
Thirty-eight school districts and the Florida School for the Deaf and Blind are pledging their support to the state's revised application for the Obama administration's Race to the Top program. School districts have until the end of the day today to determine whether or not they will support the state's bid to win $700 million in federal money from the U.S. Department of Education that could result in substantial reforms to the state's schools. Of the 38 districts, only two district unions, Levy and Glades, have rejected the plan compared to the first round where the majority of the district unions did not support the state's Race to the Top application. To win the money, the state would likely need support from nearly all of the districts in the state.
