2008 Project: Tools of the Trade: A Guidance Conclave: Preparing Students for Higher Academic Achievement through Guidance, Counseling and School Reform

DESCRIPTION:

This Professional Development activity served four hundred sixty-five K-12 guidance counselors, Broward College Career and Academic Advisors, and one hundred Broward County Administrators and Staff.  Participants were provided with an opportunity to rotate through various workshops specific to the needs of their academic levels. 

Workshops included:  Make the Connection:  High School Majors, A++, SB 1232 and CTE Major (MH);Educating a College Bound Culture (MH); “What You Should Know About Tech Prep and Ready to Work” (H); African American Males:  Endangered or Ignored (MH);  Making A Major Difference:”  The New Middle School Curriculum (M); School Counselor Interventions and Improved Outcomes for Students (E);  School is My First Job and KAPOW (E); and Academic Success: Immigrant and LEP (E) .  

Keynote Speaker for the event was Gregg Bethiel, Vice President of the National Academy Foundation.
