DESCRIPTION:
Over 400 Allied Health assisting students throughout Broward County are invited to Broward College for the annual Health Science Tour. The morning begins with a light breakfast and welcome from the Health Science Dean. Health Science Admissions Coordinator, Student career Pathways Specialist, and Health Science Scholarship Coordinators.
Students are then broken into grounds of 30-40 students and are escorted to the Health Science building where they tour twelve labs. In each lab are professors and current health science students. Professors briefly talk to students about their health science program and conduct demonstrations on equipment dummies, etc. Students are encouraged to participate in demonstrations.
Students are each lab for about 12 minutes. The day ends with lunch and gift at the end. Students also fill out an event evaluation. It takes over 50 volunteers from across the college to make the event a success.
This year students will learn about the following programs: Dental Assisting/Hygiene, Sonography, Emergency Medical Services Health Services Management, Nuclear Medicine, Nursing, Medical assisting, Physical Therapist Assistant, Radiation Therapy, Radiography, Respiratory Care, and Vision Care. Broward College partners with Health Cooperation of America (HCA), Broward Health, and Memorial Healthcare Systems in hosting this event.
