DESCRIPTION:

Advisory Boards are an integral part of Career and Technical Education. Career Academy teachers need the direction of business partners to keep things up to date for students. These business people can serve as: Guest Speakers, Teacher for the Day, Lab Facilitator. They bring in a wealth of knowledge and serve as experts in the field.

In St Lucie County we use advisory boards in many different ways. District-wide Advisory Boards have been established covering: Culinary Arts, Early Childhood/Teacher Assisting, Automotive, manufacturing, New Business/IT/ Finance, and Criminal Justice. In Culinary Arts the business Veterinary Assisting business partners perform surgeries with students assisting in the operating room. In Manufacturing business partners provide business partners provide clinical experiences for students with the hands-on piece necessary to link school to the world of work.
