Description of the Integrated Curriculum Project:
- Through the
integrating of the arts and academics, our students and
teachers performed several interpretations of the 1960’s
era.
Fashion marketing, directed by Ms. Caldwell, described
and displayed the fashion trends of the 60’s.
Chorus, directed by Courtney Nelson, sang “Come
Fly with Me" and provided examples of some of the
music that was written at that time.
Social studies students, directed by Robin King,
narrated and displayed a timeline of headline events
that occurred in the 60’s. In addition, global
studies students, directed by Barbara Gadson performed
a skit demonstrating the rebellious nature of the 60’s
with anti-war protests. Students of Jim Corbin danced
and sang to rock and roll music of the era,
Boone's English department was represented by
students who recited the famous Dr. Martin Luther King’s “I
Have a Dream” speech. Ms. Beverly Davenport supported
these students.
The drama department,directed by Tiffany Weagely,
performed an act from the musical Hairspray.
At the end of the program, our
art history department, directed by Carl Overton, united
all efforts by showing a PowerPoint presentation of people,
events, artists, and historical facts of the 60’s.
Plans for Future Continuation, Modification:
- Our goals were met and our Creative Arts Academy looks
ahead to next year for bigger and better integrated programs.
